Kalimpong Kitchens: Documenting Food Roots

Near Deolo Road, Kalimpong, West Bengal – 734301

Craft, Heritage and Culture Culinary heritage and food traditions 5 Volunteer Openings For 7 Days

About the program

Journey into the misty hills of Kalimpong, where centuries-old Lepcha and Bhutia food traditions are still cooked over wood fires and passed down through oral memory rather than recipe books. As a Culture Compass volunteer, you’ll work alongside local home cooks, foragers, and community elders to document indigenous ingredients, fermentation techniques, and forgotten recipes before they fade. Your writing and research will directly feed into a growing culinary archive — helping preserve identity, support local food entrepreneurs, and bring global recognition to a cuisine the world rarely sees. This is heritage work with lasting, tangible impact.
