About the program

Apprentice under master artisans in the heart of Kutch, Gujarat — a region home to some of India’s most treasured living craft traditions. Volunteers learn traditional pottery techniques in the potter’s village of Khavda and hands-on woodcarving and lacquer-craft methods in Nirona, working alongside multi-generational artisan families. You’ll gain real skills in shaping, finishing, and traditional design techniques passed down for centuries. Set against Kutch’s dramatic desert landscape, this program blends hands-on craft immersion with rich Kutchi culture, folk textiles, and community life — perfect for anyone passionate about heritage crafts, design, or traditional art forms.

7:30 AM – Wake up, breakfast in Bhuj

8:30 AM – Travel to the day's craft village (Khavda or Nirona, alternating by schedule)

9:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Hands-on apprenticeship session with the artisan family (pottery or woodcarving)

1:00 PM – Lunch with the artisan community or back in Bhuj

2:30 – 4:30 PM – Continued craft practice, technique refinement, or design learning session

5:00 PM – Return to Bhuj

Evening – Free time: Old Bhuj exploration, textile shopping, or rest

7:30 PM – Group dinner and reflection on the day's craft learning

Evenings – Optional cultural sessions on Kutchi folk music, textiles, or storytelling
